accepted for continuing education units (CEUs) and certification maintenance (CM points)
by various organizations on an individual request basis. The IDL Technical Training Center
can provide a syllabus, timetable and if requested, resumes for each course and its
instructors so that students may request credits from their specific professional
organization. The IDL Technical Training Center and U.S. Micro-Solutions, Inc. are
independent of any professional organization and do not request CEU or CM on behalf of
students.

Baseline Microbial Survey Fundamentals

This one-day course offers attendees the
fundamental knowledge required to complete a cursory investigation of residential
properties where mould and water problems are suspected. The course includes a
microbiology primer followed by an explanation of practical field techniques and methods
of observation. Students are challenged to interpret laboratory data with oversight by a
professional field scientist. The course includes a laboratory and sampling equipment
practicum where attendees learn when, where and how to collect different types of samples.
A primary section on report-writing is also offered. Fee includes materials, continental
breakfast and lunch.

This is a two-day course offered by the IDL
Technical Training Center. It is appropriate for professionals who have completed the
Baseline Microbial Survey Fundamentals course or anyone who has worked in industrial
hygiene, safety or environmental science in the past. This course offers a more
academic-intensive study of microbiology, building science and thermodynamics. Issues or
residential and commercial indoor air quality surveys are covered, as well as unique
indoor air challenges in each. This course includes instruction in field sampling and
information on sample analysis. Over two and a half contact hours are dedicated to sample
interpretation and determination of fungal ecology. This course offers a more intensive
report-writing segment. Fee includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch each day.

Bacteria in Black and Grey Water

The typical bacterial ecology of residential
and commercial structures is the focus in the intensive short-course for indoor
environmental professionals and water restoration providers. The course is divided,
roughly, into four one-hour sessions including fundamentals of bacteria in water and on
surfaces, a discussion of sampling techniques, laboratory testing and interpretation of
sample results and selection appropriate clean-up levels for post-remedial verification.
The course includes a demonstration of sampling methods appropriate for black and grey
water clean-up projects. Coffee or refreshments provided.

LEGIONNAIRES'
DISEASE - A Current Update

No pre-requisite. This course is specially tailored for plant management
personnel, infection control practitioners, health and safety specialists in hospitals,
and other medical facilities. Legionella pnumophila and other Legionella
spp are persistent, common bacterial contaminants in any system or device with standing
water. This course discusses methods for monitoring and measuring for Legionella
contamination. The course includes discussion of the history of the bacterium, sampling
sites, sampling frequency and techniques, decontamination procedures, and outbreak crisis
management.
